- By the throat is a hardcore punk rock band formed in 2010 in Boston, MA by a group of friends who played in bands that played with each often. The band consists of Sean Miller (ex-Dimwit’s) on guitar, Chris Brat (Acrobrats, Blood Vessels) on bass, Chris Dimwit (ex-Dimwits) on drums and Niff (Blood Vessels, Buried In Leather) on vocals and guitar.By The Throat remembers a time when hardcore music had one foot firmly planted in the revved up rock n roll sounds of the 70’s from bands like Bad Brains, The Damned & the MC5, while groups such as Minor Threat, The Replacements and The Descendents honed their style upon those foundations already laid. But this is not a revival or rip off act, BTT uses these influences as a springboard to create their own sounds which they use as an outlet for frustration, discontent, having fun, riding boards, playing fast and loud and drinking beer.In true DIY spirit, the band self-recorded and is about to release their upcoming debut vinyl 7″ EP titled One Good Night. The 5 song EP was recorded by Niff, mastered by Nick Zampiello at new Alliance East (Doomriders, Torche, Converge) and will be released on Sean & Chris Dimwit’s label Winter St Records. One Good Night is due out November, 2010. BTT will begin recording their follow up in early April, before playing a few shows around MA, RI & NYC later in the month, with plans to release the new record in the summer, which will be a split 7″ vinyl with fellow Boston Hardcore band You’re Under Arrest..

The guys do not just bash out sixty second burst of speed (although there is nothing wrong with that either), but craft highly structured pieces that reflect more sophisticated songwriting reflective of musicians who have done this for a while. By the Throat give their respects to the fundamental principles of punk’s history while also displaying enough dexterity to elevate them above a simple clone of the past.
