  • Biography
    • I’ll always be a sucker for a catchy/high-energy punk rock tune and these guys offer just that over and over again. Every song on their latest, “Apocalyptic Ballads” is an anthem with sing-along choruses, driving riffs and enough melody to rival early Misfits…Ya know, back when they were a band not a clothing company (and before I was born, so what I know anyway). While Ready Steady Torpedo leave the horror business to the fits, they do deliver the occasional WOAH OH OH, tastefully.”
      — Bedside Manner Collective (http://bedsidemannercollective.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/ready-steady-torpedo/)”Ready, Steady… Torpedo! has been launching its brand of straight-running, low-budget rock on Massachusetts’ underground audiences for the best part of two years.
Their loyal and dedicated fan base describes them as “the most rad band ever” and while this may be a case of overhyped bravado, the band’s high velocity breakneck style takes no prisoners.–Chybucca Sounds. “What’s Up, Dr. Faustus” is an explosive affair from stem to stern; with a mix featuring both ad hoc explosions and a constant two minutes and thirty seconds of nonstop churn. If this song has a soul, then it has been sold and is being hewn into new shape in the devil’s workshop, which we assume he has down there somewhere.
For all its chaos, “What’s Up Dr. Faustus” is not horrifically jarring or uncomfortable for the listener. We quickly become accustomed to its high-toned, high-octane spirit until we feel comfortable in the wild, fiery maelstrom of its world. While the song is mostly what my Uncle Alden would have called blood and thunder, there is some direction and structure to it; largely created by the lead guitar track. The lead etches out some notes of a melody on the wall and then smashes them to a million pieces. Over and over again. But you’re here for eternity, so what do you care?”

“How many movies or video games are there where we find ourselves dropped into a warzone? Everyone’s bumping around on the airplane/space ship, then someone gives a signal and kaplow, we’re in the middle of a full-on battle against the terrorists or the Bugs (“Would you like to know more?”). There’s all kinds of noise and bullets and laser beams flying all over the place, and the mortar fire, oddly enough, resembles the sound of pounding drums, with explosive cymbal crashes occurring all-too-regularly, Some sort of battle-scarred leader is calling out orders over a microphone as the infantrymen storm all over the place, bearing weapons that look like… it can’t be – but it is …. guitars. Wait a second – is this a warzone or a song?
Turns out that we’re in a song; although if you have any battleground experience (real or simulated) “Sinners In The Hands of An Angry God” may give you a flashback or two. The violence explodes out of this track, making you simultaneously feel like ducking and blowing something up. Maybe both at the same time. Like there’s fire in the hole – but not enough, so let’s toss in another grenade. “Sinners…” is certainly an energizing song, with the vocal serving as the primary clarion call to action. The guitar parts are demonstrative of that energy, dynamically bouncing around in a way that is quite powerful yet supremely agile, all at the same time. They climb up and down, leaping off things and jumping onto other things for pretty much the entire run of the track.
This song is a battle – but it is a battle that we can be certain that we are winning. There’s not a lot of fear and paranoia here, like some sniper’s gonna cap you any moment. No sir, this is a victorious battlefield where the listener – as long as they are friends with Ready, Steady, Torpedo – are running the table. We are on the side of righteousness – and we are winning. The powerful, infectious bravado of “Sinners…” will let you know that easily.”

“Hi, we’re Ready, Steady,Torpedo, and this is ROCK AND ROLL! Hell yeah it is. Old school punk rock at its steadiest. I’ve seen RST half a dozen times before, and I wasn’t let down by their show tonight. They’re having fun, and so am I. Every tune is a mini anthem, without them having to convince you of it. A song about Faust selling his soul to play rock n’ roll? Check. Getting ready for a meltdown? Double check. Double-time Pumpkins cover of Disarm? Do I have to say it? Plus, they have cool t-shirts. RST capped off the night like the last rounds of a Tyson match.”

The Wrath to Come is a taster of what their forthcoming full-length has to offer, and is very much a punk record in attitude, containing furious blues-based garage and bludgeoning riffs. ‘What’s Up, Dr. Faustus’ and ‘Opening Prayer’ drives through lo-fi power-punk chords, while ‘Finish Line’ detracts from the rebellion, opting instead for intricate-laced rhythms. The quartet’s early self-propelled vision is explosive. ”

  • “I was hoping I would find a shot of these dudes online getting some serious air to include in the PUNK JUMPS section, but I did not come across anything , so I’ll try to keep this short…as always…Found out about these guys via the late MULTI-PURPOSE SOLUTION who claim that these guys are their “cousin band.”What can I say except that I’ll always be a sucker for a catchy/high-energy punk rock tune and these guys offer just that over and over again.
