- Walter Gustafson and Matt Sandonato of Gang Green were killing time due to the band being on an involuntary, court mandated hiatus. Matt and old pal Howie went to a benefit at Middle East in Cambridge, MA. Afterwards, Matt asks Howie to get together and write some songs. After putting together a half dozen or so songs, (“Flop House” and “Hooch, Pills and Rails” were early songs) Matt and Howie ring up Walter (who in addition to Gang Green has also played in Outlets, Mung and plenty of other great Boston bands) to get out of the house and play some drums. As the project begins to gather momentum, Howie, Wally and Matt get the itch to bring it out of the wood shed. Matt brings in his old friend, multi-talented artist Will Carroll to play bass. Matt Charette, a friend of Howie’s is brought in to play guitar. SCRAPES play their first show at the Midway in Boston, MA in January 2009.
In spring 2010 SCRAPES recorded tracks for their debut album at Mad Oak Studios in Brighton, MA with Benny Grotto producing. They continue to write new material and perform locally while shopping the album to labels.
