Summoning Hate / Led To The Grave / Forced Asphyxiation / Excrecor / Totality / Rammstein
O’Brien’s 10/11

(Note: We didn’t actually see Rammstein … it was only a figment of Slimedog’s imagination)

Today Andy Bang and Slimedog are in the wilds of the Australian Outback to bring you another episode of Treacherous Texting (where we do a live review in a dangerous setting). What’s reviewed is a metal show of some great bands that recently played at O’Brien’s in Allston MA.

Keep in mind that any references to animals in the review were hallucinations due to the accidental ingestion of animal tranquilizers. So not only do we hope the review is informative in having people become aware of some good bands. We would also hope to have a cautionary tale about the perils of drugs. Read and learn.

Slimedog- It’s very interesting here in the bushes of the Australia outback.

Andy Bang- Yes, I think a scorpion just ran up my leg, …and I’m not talkin’ about those German guys.

Slimedog- Yes, I know, some scoff at it being treacherous, but those Kangaroos pack quite the kick.

Andy- Yah, I can see the nasty welt under your left eye…it must be 150 degrees here.

Slimedog- So true. It’s hot enough to boil a monkey’s bum. What about the band Totality?

Andy- I don’t mean to be punny, but Totality totally rocks out. They have a cool death thrash thing goin’.

Slimedog- I thought they were a mix between prog rock and death metal as if King Crimson became a death metal band, and I dug the jazzy drummer.

Andy- I know what you mean. It seems like many modern day metal drummers could just as easily play with Kenny G as with Kilswitch Engage.

Slimedog- Totality was my second favorite band of the night. I must admonish you however, we can swear, but mentioning “Kenny G” is not allowed.

Andy- Who was your favorite band of the night?

Slimedog- Rammstein.

Andy- Ahh, was the second band really Rammstein under false pretenses. No wonder I couldn’t understand what they were saying.

Slimedog- They were called Ex-Lax or something, they did not please me or make my bodily functions lose control.

Andy- I think it was more like Excrecor or something… perhaps a few letters short of a complete band. Perhaps they should have asked Vanna if they could buy a vowel.

Slimedog- Now the next band made my nipples exploded with excitement. They are Forced Asphyxiation and they are very good.

Andy- I remember. I couldn’t breathe during their set, which made my orgasm more compelling.

Slimedog- What you did in the men’s room during their set is not what the inquiring minds of our readers want to know. I like how they step outside the metal box.

Andy- Are you talking about the band or my nuts?

Slimedog- Both. Up next was Led to the Zeppelin. They were 50 times better than when we first saw them (…and they were good then)

Andy- Yes, Led to the Grave is an awesome thrash/death metal band. Seeing them in a small venue, up close and personal was very cool.

Slimedog- I was very impressed. They were very visually and musically tight.

Andy- Hmm your definitely not talking about my nuts now… yes, they were quite fun and I believe Felipe (guitarist from Acaro) was diggin’ them as well.

Slimedog- Definitely my favorite band of the night and I like how they traded off on lead vocals.

Andy- Yes, I agree and also their drummer is amazing. He adds intensity and stability at a million miles an hour.

Slimedog- Agreed. The last band of the night was Summoning Hate. What did you think of them?

Andy- I liked them, they were a bit different, but in a good way. I thought the volume was unnecessarily too loud for their set, but that’s O’Brien’s M.O.

Slimedog- Maybe I was metaled out. They were excellent magicians, but they did not pull the rabbit out of my hat.

Andy- It certainly was a long night of metal with a tremendous amount of decibels. If not for the alcohol, we might have been taken out on stretchers.

Slilmedog- Indeed. I had no alcohol, as usual, but I think someone spiked my diet sprite with animal tranquilizers. It’s probably why I thought I saw Rammstein play that night.

Andy- Speaking of animal tranquilizers, the rhino that’s been eye-ing us for the last few minutes is heading in our direction… Looks like he wants to poke us in one way or another, but I don’t think we should hang around long enough to find out which way… Let’s skedaddle… See you back in Boston.

Slimedog- Yes, and as they say in Australia, “Sayonara.”
