THE WELCH BOYS / THE BLUE BLOODS / DRAGO / THE DOLL EYES (Part 2)

show

PHIL McCAFFERTY/FOLK GUY/OC45/THE McGUNKS at The Midway THE DOLL EYES/ DRAGO/ THE BLUE BLOODS/ THE WELCH BOYS at The Beachcomber 8/11 (Part 2)

Part Two of Treacherous Texting involves the evening show that followed the afternoon show covered in Part One. And just like on that day(where we traveled from The Midway in Jamaica Plain, MA to The Beachcomber in Quincy MA) to finish this review, we left Paris, France to travel to Pisa, Italy. And just like we dangled precariously off the Eiffel Tower while texting so we did, also, in Part Two only this time it was off the Leaning Tower of Pisa. What follows is the actual transcript of this treacherous texting. Watch as it unfolds before your very (doll) eyes.

Slimedog- The food here in Italy is very good.

Bang- Yes, I especially like the sauce.

Slimedog- I hope I don’t fall off. Before we entered the Beachcomber I ate next door.

Bang- I remember, it was a funky little place with lots of grease oozing.

Slimedog- It used to be called “Hot Rod Hot Dogs” or something as wonderfully mindless.

Bang- Didn’t we see a Full Body Anchor guitar player there?

Slimedog- Yeah that was the lovely and talented Amy Griffin. I had a cheeseburger, cheese fries and I was upset they were out of cheese soda.

Bang- Yah, too bad. No surprise they didn’t have a bathroom. After all the cheese, who can shit?

Slimedog- Excellent point. I don’t believe the Italians are happy with us dangling from this tower. It appears they’re throwing meatballs at me or perhaps balls of shit.

Bang- Yah, I think there’s a guy giving me the finger down there. Either that or he wants to do unspeakable things to us when we get down.

Slimedog- Well, at least you have your porno experience to help with that.

Bang- True, but my ass is labeled, “Exit Only.”

Slimedog- Mine is “Enter At Your Own Risk,” which bring up the first band of the evening- The Doll Eyes.

Bang- Nice segway. Yes, Phil did double duty that day and night and was splendid (as were the rest of the Doll Eyes).

Slimedog- Phil had many refreshments that day but he still did a marvelous job.

Bang- Yes, he certainly has a lot of stamina.

Slimedog- I believe The Doll Eyes are my favorite band in the world next to Rammstein.

Bang- After The Doll Eyes I’ll have to give the nod to Slayer (since I just finished the article) very cool band.

Slimedog- The only way I could like them more is if they changed their name to The Puppet Eyes. Gary, the drummer, is so easy going but so intense when he plays.

Bang- Yes, I noticed that. He’s very focused and bounces to the beat (right off his stool at times).

Slimedog- His fiancé was afraid Phil was going to vomit on her while singing.

Bang- Would have to be projectile vomiting to hit her from the stage.

Slimedog- Very true, indeed. Now that we’ve discussed The Doll Eyes in depth, what about Drago?

Bang- What can I say? Simply the best display of hardcore-itry I’ve witnessed in some time. It’s a shame they don’t play out more often.

Slimedog- Agreed, next to Rammstein they’re my favorite band in the world.

Bang- I thought The Doll Eyes were your favorite band in the world?

Slimedog- I’m fickle. Their style is intense hardcore/metal with lyrics similar to “Would you like a cupcake?”

Bang- Yes, don’t mind if I do…can you throw one over?

Slimedog- I have none, that was merely a metaphor. I only have shit meatballs. I never realized the Drago’s awesomeness. I am an ignoramus.

Bang- Don’t be so hard on yourself… And throw me a meatball if you can spare one.

Slimedog- Here, catch it. It was nice to meet Jess Punk and Heather. Also, Carrie, manager of BarRoom Heroes, was there.

Bang- Woops…Shit, I nearly fell..there goes the meatball…just hit the guy with the finger square in the face.

Slimedog- How dreadful. When you recover what’s your take on The Blue Bloods?

Bang- I thought The Blue Bloods rock’ed out. Lots of good energy. Very spritely.

Slimedog- I thought it was amusing seeing somewhat older people moshing a bit.

Bang- Yes, I was hoping that old lady would put her teeth back in.

Slimedog- Welch Boys were not my cup of whiskey. Maybe too much Irish punk influence for me.

Bang- Yah, I know what you mean. Even so, they were still entertaining and kept the momentum going.

Slimedog- We should mention how great all the drummers were. For me the first band was the best and down in order from there.

Bang- I’ll have to give the nod to Drago in that department. But they all did a splendid job.

Slimedog- I notice the police are heading in our direction. I believe we need to make a hasty retreat.

Bang- Oh yah, I see them coming…let’s skedaddle, best drop the meatballs.

Slimedog- Well, as they say in Italy, “Adios.”

Bang- Cool, see you back in Boston.

Slimedog- See ya there.
