Urban Waste / Drunk Robb & The Shots / Reason To Fight / Trans Fats / Red Line Rebels / Socialized Death Sentence
Firehouse 13, Providence, RI  3/11/12

The following is a live review, using the method of texting, conducted under dangerous circumstances in a live volcano in Hawaii, of a recent show witnessed in Rhode Island. Before you start enjoying this “Treacherous Texting” article it must be stated that, (A) Don Ho was a wonderful Hawaii entertainer who led a sinless life and had no unusual attractions toward ukelele’s, (B) The Firehouse is a great club in Providence and does not allow dogs to defecate in its premises and (C) Brass, of Brass N Ammo, is one of the best promoters in the area and does not steal peoples hamburgers or smell like dogshit. Please proceed and enjoy.

Slimedog- Well, it’s nice to be in Hawaii after the terrible winter we had in Boston.

Andy (Bang)- Yes, and inside an active volcano…the heat is sure to clear our sinuses.

Slimedog- That’s the only drawback. It could go off at any second (we got this idea from “Deported To Hawaii” by the Red Line Rebels).

Andy- That’s an understatement. I thought the idea was the Red Line Rebels would be in the active volcano while we went hula dancing.

Slimedog- Hmm, I wish Jay, their singer, would get deported to Syria, though you did say you enjoyed your vacation there.

Andy- Yah, not too bad, provided you can avoid getting killed. The chicks are hot!

Slimedog- I hope this volcano doesn’t get hot and, talking about hot places – How about the Firehouse and the hot chicken joint next door?

Andy- I know, very impressive. It’s not everyday you go to a show at a Firehouse that’s next to a Chinese take-out, hair dressing supply house and Mickey D’s (not to mention Dunky D’s). What more could you ask for?

Slimedog- Firehouse was a cool club. I just didn’t like the dalmatians running around.

Andy- Yah, and one of the little shits stole my Big Mac. But the Firehouse was definitely a very cool place.

Slimedog- But the dogshit was appalling; which makes me think of Brass N Ammo for some reason. Onto the bands. How about Socialized Death Sentence?

Andy- I remember briefly meeting the singer outside the show. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a nose ring with that much metal. I thought their sound was death punk. What did you think?

Slimedog- I like their description of “drunk core” but I would call them “grind death core,” very abrasive, but I got used to them in the end.

Andy- Yah, they really brought it and had good energy.

Slimedog- Watch out for that lava rocket! Red Line Rebels are my favorite live band so I’ll let you take it.

Andy- The Rebels are a lot of fun. They put on a great show and Jay really knows how to engage the audience. Bummer they had a snafu, loosing their drum equipment (Luckily they recovered it later in the week).

Slimedog- They get tighter all the time. And the new CD review just got put in (here). What’s Don Ho doing here?

Andy- Look, he brought his ukulele, maybe he’ll do a little bit of “Tiny Bubbles”… I think The Trans Fats were up next, weren’t they?

Slimedog- We’ve maybe seen them only two or three times but Trans Fat, I think, is one of our best. I like when the singer poured beer from the stage into Jay’s mouth.

Andy- I really like The Trans Fats. Awesome energy and an amazing drummer.

Slimedog- Reason To Fight were next. I think it’s safe to say they’re your favorite hardcore band. I like everything about them except what they drink (Busch Non-Alcoholic).

Andy- Yeah, Reason To Fight is awesome…definitely one of the best hardcore bands around.

Slimedog- Agreed, you know I just realized Don Ho is dead. We might be at a portal to Hell as it’s obviously where Don went but, more importantly, we then went to McDonald’s (which is the same thing).

Andy- True, all that moshin’ left us quite hungry. Nice to hang out with the Rebels over a burger and discuss the finer points of nose hair coloring.

Slimedog- And French Existentialism. Then we saw Drunk Robb & The Shots.

Andy- Drunk Robb has a big heart and a great attitude. He really gives it all during a performance.

Slimedog- Not my favorite but Brass has impeccable taste in his shows he puts on so what do I know? And I think they’re more humor/garage than punk but I don’t mind them. Last up was Urban Waste.

Andy- And Wow! Urban Waste blew me away. They sounded fantastic. The New York scene continues to be very impressive.

Slimedog- I agree about the New York scene and love the people and the city. I know we say we cover “New England” but I think we should include New York, as well. I still liked three of our bands better. (Rebels, Trans Fat and Reason To Fight)

Andy- Absolutely, I couldn’t agree with you more. Hey, are your feet getting hot?

Slimedog- Very; and Don is doing unspeakable things with his ukulele as we speak. And he appears to be beckoning us toward the portal of Hell.

Andy- If we don’t get out of here real fast this volcano’s gonna blow. He seems to want us to follow him….I say we get outta here …

Slimedog- Affirmative. See you back in snowdrift Boston.

Not sure if it’s clear here but this was a great show at a great club (our first visit) put on by a great promoter. ‘Nuff said.
