Street Dogs / OC45 / Barroom Heroes / Will Good & Rory Studebaker
Midway Cafe, Jamaica Plain, MA 8/2/14

We were very pleased to see and interview the Street Dogs last December at the House Of Blues. Actually, the interview was only with Mike McColgan, the leader and singer of the band, but I was very happy how it turned out.

And we were very happy to see the band play again at the Midway and it was a very fun night.

The following is a dual texting review of the show. Names have not been changed in order to aid the police in prosecuting the guilty. As I always warn, do not attempt dual texting on your own. Our staff is totally untrained, unprofessional, unconscious and unaware of themselves as well as others. Unless you meet these strict requirements it’s best not to attempt.

But sit back, relax, and don’t make any unnecessary, violent movements and enjoy the future now in the present’s past- the wondrous, wonderful world of dual texting.

(This review is dedicated to David Byron, former lead singer of Uriah Heep)

Slimedog- So a big band is doing a show here tonight and the band is from Boston correct?

Andy- Hmm, yes I believe that is correct.

Slimedog- So it’s true- Aerosmith is here tonight!

Andy- Ahh, unless that guy over there with the nose ring is Joe Perry, I think not.

Slimedog- Is it New Kids On The Block?

Andy- Not unless we’ve changed blocks.

Slimedog- How absurd of me. We’re on BarRoom Heroes guest list so it must be the Dropkick Murphy’s.

Andy- Yes, that’s it, well, no not really, ahh sort of.

Slimedog- Oh, it’s the Street dogs. Good, I like them much better than all those other bands.

Andy- Good thing otherwise you would have a miserable time and go postal on some unsuspecting patron.

Slimedog- Eh, I do that when I’m happy as well. Hey, the last time we saw this band was last Xmas at House Of Blues.

Andy- Yes and what a great show that was. It’s awesome that Street Dogs takes the time out of their schedule to play a smaller venue like the Midway.

Slimedog- Hmm, last time we saw them there were a couple thousand people there and we interviewed them right?

Andy- Well yes, and we had a nice chat with Mike (the lead singer).

Slimedog- And now shortly after posting the interview they’re playing a club that holds a hundred. Do you think that there’s a correlation?

Andy- Hey are you insinuating that our interview caused the Street Dogs to plummet into obscurity?

Slimedog- No, it must be a coincidence. Just like with every other band we cover.

Andy- Hmm you may have a point. Perhaps our need to do good would be better served by going to Ethiopia and caring for poor children.

Slimedog- Great idea but actually the Street Dogs are going on a European tour after tonight and this show is just a warm up. Hey there’s only two guys on stage.

Andy- Oh oh, and there’s a banjo … I’d better start drinking heavily.

Slimedog- No, it’s Will Good and the banjo player from Old Edison. Will is one of the best songwriters I know.

Andy- Sorry too late, I’ve already downed a half a bottle of Scotch. But, for some reason, they sound very good to me.

Slimedog- I guess you’re lucky you didn’t catch the all acoustic sets this afternoon. You’d be passed out by now. Will’s somewhat grim songs really shine through in this setting. Hey, some midgets are getting on stage with a bagpipe!

Andy- Really, you see them too? I thought I was having hallucinations.

Slimedog- Oh, my mistake. It’s those pipsqueaks of punk- The BarRoom Heroes.

Andy- Oh right that’s who it is. I thought I saw some parent-y looking people in the crowd. I think I might be starting to sober up.

Slimedog- I’ll drink to that. Yes, thanks to Carrie their manager/mom for getting us in.

Andy- Yes I’ve already drank to that. And don’t mind if I have another. Hey I think the BarRoom’s are working on a new CD.

Slimedog- While we’re working on another hangover. They do sets with out any covers now and sound great.

Andy- Ass-polutely I mean absolutely. They are also quite polished these days.

Slimedog- No, I think they’re Irish and they’re infected, I mean, influenced by the Street Dogs. Now it’s time for the next band which is also my favorite pop/punk band.

Andy- What Uriah Heep is playing tonight? I can’t wait.

Slimedog- That would be wondrous but in fact, it’s the hardest working band from Boston, OC45.

Andy- Oh right, but what do you mean by hard working?

Slimedog- They tour the whole country and are ready to do another one as well and play more gigs than any band we cover. Plus their songs have emotion and guts over slickness and finesse.

Andy- Wow that’s cool. And tonight they sound incredible.

Slimedog- They do indeed but soon it will be time for the headliners- The J. Geils Band.

Andy- Great! I didn’t realize Peter Wolf was still doing it after all these years.

Slimedog- Oh, no! An enraged giraffe has entered the club and devoured Peter Wolf and the rest of the band is using a flamethrower to drive him off.

Andy- Now who’s been drinking? Well I guess it’s all for the best because the Street Dog are here to save the day.

Slimedog- Yeah, I really think that was Uriah Heep anyways. Carrie says Mike, the singer, seems more animated tonight.

Andy- Really? I wonder who drew him. Perhaps he’s just very excited to play the fabulous Midway Cafe.

Slimedog- They look like they’re having fun and the crowd is going nuts. We’ve said it before, these guys are our favorite band out of the bigger bands from Boston.

Andy- Yes I’ve never been disappointed by a Street Dogs show. Always high energy and exciting. And now with Lenny (Lashley) joining the ranks they’re even better.

Slimedog- And they’re doing “Skin Head” by Darkbuster in the encore. Good choice with Lenny in the band. And now they’re playing “KKK Took My Baby Away” by the Ramones which we just featured in the Bang Video of the Week.

Andy- Almost like we knew what we were doing. But in truth all four original Ramones are now in Rock’N’Roll Heaven.

Slimedog- True while all the dead metal dudes are in hell. Hey Mike just said that our interview was one of the few he’s done that he really enjoyed. That’s quite the compliment.

Andy- Perhaps he’s also drinking Scotch.

Slimedog- No, he doesn’t drink. Anyhow great night and our condolences go out to the family of the lead singer of Uriah Heep.

Andy- I think the lead singer of Uriah Heep died in like 1985, but better late than never. Well here’s to another great show at the beautiful Midway Cafe. Until next time then. Now where the heck did I leave the rest of that Scotch…
